Blue-green algae has big potential for converting waste to fuel

A blue-green algae called Synechocystis 6803 harbors great potential. Fuzhong Zhang, PhD, assistant professor of engineering, is working to figure out how the cyanobacterium can deliver — such as turning carbon dioxide into useful chemicals that could help tame global warming and sustain our energy supply.

URSA grants awarded to six teams

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research announced the six winners of the 2013 University Research Strategic Alliance (URSA) grants. URSA grants provide one-year, $25,000 seed funding to WUSTL faculty. The program aims to encourage researchers to collaborate across disciplines and schools.
